Oksana Pikush, and the masters of the Centre
Andrii Pikush was born in Petrykivka and learned the painting from Vasyl Sokolenko, Tetiana Pata's pupil. He worked at the Petrykivka painting factory in the early 1970s, and in 1991 he organised the creative association «Petrykivka», held by the folk masters themselves as co-owners. In 1998 that association and the experimental workshop merged into the Centre of Folk Art «Petrykivka», which he has headed since.
The Centre's masters were part of the campaign that carried Petrykivka painting to UNESCO. Ukraine entered it on its own National List in December 2012, an exhibition of more than ninety works by folk masters of the Dnipropetrovsk region opened at the European Parliament in Brussels on 29 January 2013, and that December the Committee inscribed it in Baku as Ukraine's first element on the Representative List.
In March 2025 he received the National Taras Shevchenko Prize, Ukraine's highest award in the arts, together with Maria Pikush, A. Karpets-Yermolaieva and N. Rybak, for the project the masters titled «Petrykivka painting: in defence of identity».
